She was the only great female hero

Her father received one wish from Artemis and he asked that his child                                                                 be the greatest hunter in all of Greece

• He was hoping for a boy and felt that he had been betrayed by the                                                               Gods when he had a girl instead

• He abandoned his daughter in the woods

  • She was adopted by a bear and raised as a cub

  • She learned about the animals and forests of Greece

The hunters realized that someone was letting the animals out of their                                                         traps on the mountain

• One of the hunters communicated with her and told her she was                                                               not a bear but a person

• He clothed her and took her down to civilization to learn human                                                         hunting techniques

She became famous for her hunting and won a lot of awards

One king angered Artemis and she let the Caledonian boar go wild

• It was said that only the best hunter could kill the boar

Meleager was the prince of the king and was hoping to kill the boar

• He invited Atalanta to try and kill it

• Meleager fell in love with Atalanta

Atalanta eventually tracked down the boar and killed it

Meleager was given the pelt because he was the official killer but he in turn                                                 gave the pelt to Atalanta because she was able to track and locate it

• This angered his uncles because they thought he was blinded by love

• Meleager kills his uncles for their criticism

• His mother owns a log that represtend his life

  • As long as the log remained fin, so would Meleager, but if something would to happen to the log, he would be injured or killed

Meleager's mother heard that her son killed her brothers and was very upset

• While she was grieving, she accidentally threw Meleager’s log into the fire

• Meleager caught fire and burned to death right before he was to propose to Atalanta

Many people after him proposed to her but no one was strong enough

• ​She decided that if a man could beat her in a footrace, that they were suitable for her

Melanion fell in love with her and was dead set on beating her in the footrace

• As they were running, he threw three golden apples far from the trail and she ran off to collect them

  • ​By distracting her with the golden apples, he was able to win the footrace

They get married and really fall in love

• They had sex on Zeus’s alter and he changed them into lions as punishment
